Dracula (Sydney Theatre Co) ★★★★
Sydney Theatre Company’s Dracula isn’t just theatre, it’s an event and a milestone.

American Signs (Sydney Theatre Co) ★★★★
No one likes management consultants. Even management consultants don’t like management consultants. It takes a performer of unique empathy to make us care for The Consultant and thankfully Catherine Văn-Davies is dynamic in this one-person show.

dog (KXT on Broadway) ★★★
With little dialogue, and little plot driving the story, dog is not a comfortable watch.

London: The Cine-theatre
Stranger Things: The First Shadow ★★★★ / The Picture of Dorian Gray ★★★★★ / Opening Night ★★ / ABBA: Voyage ★★★★. The collision of technology and the stage is nothing new but across all the shows I saw in London, a few used the blend of cameras, screens and live performance better than others.

Into The Shimmering World (Sydney Theatre Co) ★★★1/2
Into The Shimmering World uses a seemingly simple man to raise a lot of questions.

Zombie! The Musical (Hayes) ★★★★★
This show has my heart, and it can eat it too if it likes. So, chookas to the Apocalypse!

The Great Divide (Ensemble) ★★★1/2
Retirement obviously does not sit well with playwright David Williamson, or maybe Australia is just in need of its great chronicler to help illuminate the way and he’s heeded the call to duty… whatever the reason, he’s back.

A Fool in Love (Sydney Theatre Co) ★★★
There’s putting a hat on a hat, and then there’s A Fool in Love – the new comedy that gets so engrossed in its maximalist approach it threatens to lose itself completely. To quote the great poet/philosopher of our age, Taylor Swift, “You need to calm down”.

Venus & Adonis (Seymour Centre) ★★★1/2
Damien Ryan’s Venus & Adonis feels like a companion piece to Jessica Swale’s Nell Gwynn, both reframe Shakespeare with a female protagonist, lashings for humour and cutting commentary on the battle of the sexes.
